We’re proud to announce that William Marcellus Armstrong of Cranbrook Academy of Art is the winner of The Grasshopper Entrepreneur Scholarship.

The $5000 scholarship is awarded to one active college student who is committed to entrepreneurship. Students were required to submit an essay on the biggest barriers to entrepreneurship, and how they’d overcome these obstacles:

William says it best:

As an entrepreneur, the greatest hindrance to my success is myself; when I began the process of converting my pastime passion into a full time job, I had to overcome a crippling sense of self-doubt. As a visual artist, my success as an entrepreneur and one-person business is predicated on how well I communicate my ideas from imagination to execution.

Founded by two entrepreneurs, Grasshopper has been making it easier to start and grow a small business since 2003. Back then, Grasshopper was just two guys with a dream. To date we’ve served over 150,000 entrepreneurs, and were recently acquired by Citrix. We wanted to be entrepreneurially generous, so we created a scholarship that would help college students afford the rising cost of tuition.

Today our commitment to helping entrepreneurs is stronger than ever, and to that end we are proud to award this scholarship to William. Congratulations.

Thanks to all who applied for this year’s scholarship. Until next year!
