  1. I would have love to seen what kind of business people where in. Retail? Service? Sales? Marketing? etc. Were these all of the questions?

  2. Yeah, would be interesting to see who is in what sector.

    Missed out on this myself, but will catch it next time :)

  3. It would be curious to cross-reference the business with the annual income / salary. See which was most profitable. Or at least a mean average for each sector.

  4. How many people where surveyed?

  5. It’s interesting to see the number that have college education even though a lot of the big entrepreneurs say college doesn’t matter (or is a downright waste of time).

    Bit surprised by the iPhone and Mac numbers, but I guess the tech emphasis explains that.

  6. interesting that healthcare is underrepresented or perhaps technology included medical related efforts. Also would be interesting to see how the businesses were funded-self, credit card, friends and family etc.

    • Siamak Taghaddos

      @ryan – Entrepreneurs who say college doesn’t matter either didn’t attend and are trying to justify it or didn’t have a good experience at their school. School matters, no matter what anyone will say – it’s a matter of finding the right one.

      @tony – 200+

      @nancy – the sample size isn’t big enough to give us reliable stats when cross-referencing the data

  7. Fitting in the “I’ve lost count” category, under Are You A Serial Entrepreneur question, I am impressed that 82% of the respondents have an optimistic view of this year, while most of them are making less than $100,000 per year in both business and personal income.

  8. The credit crunch and recession has been a great learning experience. We have had to take a real close look at at goals and what we are doing and how we do it.

    We have made a lot of changes and I feel we are stronger now than ever before having cut costs sensibly with a view to the long term. We spend more time researching our markets and following trends. It dispels old assumptions.

  9. Is there a sample size that can be referenced in regards to this information? It’s extremely useful. Thank you very much for publishing.

  10. Thanks a lot for sharing these results. I agree with the statement that 2010 will be a good year given that the clouds of recession scatter and there are bright chances that the atmosphere will be pleasant for investments being made.

    Technology and Mobile based apps are going to be the leads this year and ahead IMHO

  11. I was wondering if you could provide the a confidence intervals for the above data. If the sample size is too small to cross reference income levels, I would like to see the confidence of the individual questions. Thanks

    BTW. Awesome!

  12. wow so most of them earnt less than 30k last year and yet they expect to earn less than 100k this year.

    Did this survey include another option under 100k because the survey is obviously flawed in a number of ways, not least because most of them preferred macs and are therefore dumbasses.

    Grasshopper group, I cannot believe they get paid for this drivel.

  13. Hi,

    I live in Chile and would like to know where are these entrepreneurs from. I mean… did you conduct the survey online to anyone passing by, or did you take it in the US or where?

    Interesting results. Regards,

    Ricardo

    • Siamak Taghaddos

      @ricardo – It’s mostly a US group
      @sardar @kerry – I too was inspired. It’s all about having a positive outlook
      @gary – 200

  14. Not accurate.. Sounds like you guys interviewed a bunch of dorks, more of half of which make less than minimum wage. Good job

  15. Saw the results of your survey referenced on Growthink, so checked it out. Like most of the comments, surprised at the results and believe you must be surveying a heavily skewed sample. Although not working in US (actually in Indonesia), I wouldn’t have thought my case much different from most entrepreneurs, but saw my responses fall in the outlying percentiles on several questions – revenue $5-10MM, income >$200K, age 61+, oil and gas sector and “because I want to make my own decisions” for example – that suggest you haven’t been able to target the more mature entrepreneur.

    Surely there must be more like me, older gents who have accumulated a bit of capital, know a lot about what they’re doing, have good contacts at a senior level in industry and (sadly) government, and put it all together to do something interesting and challenging (and eventually rewarding) in our senior years – instead of either sitting on our fat arses grumbling at the wife, cringingly taking orders from some know-nothing hotshot young high-flying manager, or eking out our pension filling supermarket shelves for beer money.
